Mental Illnesses in Japan – Background – Zeplin in Tokyo #4

I’ll be talking a bit about the views on mental illnesses in japan, such as depression and other mental disorders, and how japanese people react to them.

General info:
My channel, TokyoZeplin, focuses on my experiences as a gaijin, a foreigner, living (or lived as of now) in Tokyo, Japan. While a lot of my videos are not facts about Japan, but rather my personal experiences in Japan, mostly Tokyo, a few of them do pop up. My topics range from prostitution in Japan, Japanese (no, not really), womens rights in Japan, working conditions in Tokyo, japanese hostesses and their culture, japanese history and culture in general, and much more. Now and then I help people learn japanese, especially japanese slang, though not a lot since there are a lot of tools for learn japanese online. But since I rarely went outside Tokyo, this is really mostly about Tokyo Japan, as my name indicates.

    @TokyoZeplin the …
    @TokyoZeplin the treatment now adays isnt as good as u think, really i have never seen someone get better with medication to help mental illness, when someone is mentally ill the only thing doctors due is overmedicate them and send them on there way, i have had three family members die from being overmedicated “one was suicide” others was for being perscibed medicin that counteracted with each other, of couse the doctor got away with it because he has money and government aid

    You are a smart person with very reasonable logic. Watched a lot of videos on Japan, and you, by a far margin, have the best reasoning. hope you keep up

    What you described …
    What you described her going through actually sounds a lot like institutions I recently found out the States used to have. I believe they were called “snake pits” because they did much the same things which you described. The thing is, they were where you sent a family member to get rid of them (no one would actually send someone there to get better, only to lock them up without sending them to prison.

    It’s horrific! You’d think such a developed country would be smarter about such things : /

    Just as example…in most companies in Austria, if youre depressed,your boss,no joke here, has to realize that.If not, he isnt’t doing his job well,and gets problems with his higher ups.
    In austria it’s the duty of your boss,to get you to “rehab” and help you,otherwise he gets problems.

    @TokyoZeplin Of the …
    @TokyoZeplin Of the topic. In what way is depression dealt better with in Europe than in US?

    This issue in Japan …
    This issue in Japan is SO incredibly serious. I have met so many Japanese men with Depression and everything Zeplin has said is true – it is ‘you’r fault for being like that. And I can’t believe how Zeplins girlfriend was treated. If anything like that happened over here in the UK the hospital would get shut down for neglect and mental abuse.

    I had similar case …
    I had similar case with ex-japanese girlfriend. she was mentally ill and tried to commit suicide. She didn’t succeed. So her dad, who was a doctor, actually sent her pills, not for depression or mental illness, but heavy pain meds that are very easy to overdose on, and actually wrote a letter indicating she should try taking a lot of them to finish the job off the right way. Unbelievable. Ridiculous and stupid.

    @Silvertrine It …
    @Silvertrine It seems your making the “Because it’s also like this in the US, it must be like this everywhere in the world” mistake a bit there.
    While I do believe that Europe handles this issue better than the US, I also believe the US handles this better than in Japan. If you don’t think so, maybe I could have explained the video better.

  10. Silvertrine Says:

    Every culture is …
    Every culture is dishonest about depression. Every possible cause of depression can be discussed except for any reason that makes someone money. Pollution causes mental illness but you wont hear it in the US. Most dull jobs cause depression but its YOUR serotonin thats to blame.
    Every culture is just as dishonest as the other.

    @TokyoZeplin sry i think i wrote alot i just want people to know these things as they are kinda put off to the side. yes some do want to help with bring a art/game room to that place but then theres people who love having power over alot of kids some who cant really defend themselves.Thats why im thinking of going n2 work there.I want to help troubled kids

  12. BlueEyes72 Says:

    @TokyoZeplin many …
    @TokyoZeplin many of the other girls the staff actually get angry and irritated at u. We all did on our frist night there being scared and the staff women was emotionless and told me to get up and do these choirs for myself. They dont have the right people in these places. Talking helps but even those docs arent always the best as they feel in titled to everything in ur head.Those arent people who should handle depressed,suicidal, or troubled kids.They treat it like jail and i thought it was

    @TokyoZeplin love …
    @TokyoZeplin love their power because my friend who was like 14 got sent n there cause she sighed outloud when a staff guy told her to do something.I mean really? I got sent n because he told me to tell these girls to move one girl over cause they were “too close to the boys” i did but they didnt so i got n trouble.The room is creepy with a bed n the middle of the room that has straps but i just stood by the window.Some kids they let get away with stuff “favorited” and if u cry there like me &
