And did people get it say 50 year ago?
And do all people with social anxiety disorder have something in common, whatever that may be?
Research into the causes of social anxiety and social phobia is wide-ranging, encompassing multiple perspectives from neuroscience to sociology. Scientists have yet to pinpoint the exact causes. Studies suggest that genetics can play a part in combination with environmental factors.
here are a list of possible causes
I’m thinking of seeing a therapist and I’ve heard lots of good things about CBT (cognitive behavior therapy).
I’m trying to get out of a never-ending dystructive relationship, and also trying to start a positive one with another man who is long distance… I just want to talk to someone to see if they can come up with a positive way to do this…
Is CBT for me?
Or is there something else I should try?
CBT literally saved my life from suicidal depression. Just to give you an idea of how powerful it is, my psychiatrist said "you probably will never get over your depression.". I wrote a short story about my experience with it here:

Now, if CBT can do that, I believe it can do just about anything if you apply it properly. The book is called: "The Feeling Good Handbook" by Dr. David Burns. I’ve been cured for a little over a year now, and life has never looked so good. BTW, the good doctor covers far more than just depression. He covers just about everything from job interviews to marital relations, so it’s right up your alley.
I’ve had anxiety/depression for 6 or 7 years now, i’ve done counseling, medication, and i’m homebound. I’ve never had a real job accept 1 that lasted a month.. I can’t get a job because of my social phobia, i have no friends and i can’t talk to people over the phone. My mom doesn’t know anything about social security, how much would they pay and would it be based off of how much my mom gets payed? Is there anything else i need to know about social security?
I am on social security disability (SSD) for major depression. I live in New York City, and here it is very difficult to get disability without a lawyer. Otherwise, it might take years to get accepted. The only good news is that lawyers can’t charge you a penny unless you win your case (at least in NYS).
How much SSD pays depends on how much you have worked and paid in your yearly taxes. I get about $900 a month on SSD. The more you worked and got paid over the years, the higher your SSD would be. I don’t think your mom’s income would count to your SSD.
You said you worked only for one month. To the best of my knowledge, this presents a major problem to get SSD. As far as I know, you would qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) which generally pays less than SSD. The following links should give you some info. http://www.ssa.gov/ssi/ and http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/11000.html
Here are a few more sites that may help. I know you said you have trouble talking over the phone. However, your best bet is to find the toll-free numbers on the links and ask for information. If you can’t do that, maybe your mom can.

One last thing: You said you tried medication. Unfortunately, it can take a lot of trial and error to find the right medication. Make sure you find a really good psychiatrist, who knows much more about psychiatric meds than a regular doctor. It took a while to find the right combination of meds to help me with my depression. I hope things work out for you.
The whole personality disorders intrigue me and I just want to know is it clinical, social etc.
abnormal psychology.
Can someone with bipolar go from normal to sad then get angry then be happy within a day or so?
My boyfriend is bipolar and his cycles last from 2 to 3 weeks for the manic phase and several months for the depressed phase. He even has a normal phase that lasts a few months so I don’t know if the symptoms can cycle all in a day or so. I will be watching for the answers also.
heart trouble. i have pain in the middle of my chest and my breast have also been sore. not sure if that would cause that pain either. i have a kidney disease and on some meds like xanax darvocet baclofen midrin zoloft. this is all due from a car wreck in 04. thanks much. if its a anxiety/panic how can i ease the chest pain and try to make it ease down?
From your description it doesnt sound like your having a panic attack. when i have panic attacks it feels like the walls are closing in on u and u cant really breath. Since u have a kidney deseise check with your doctor and see whats going on.
If I tell people that I have depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, it’s like a big red flag for them to just not talk to me anymore. I don’t know what I have because doctors are unable to really diagnose my symptoms and they have all said different things.
I just don’t understand why people treat people with "mental disorders" differently then if the disorder was diabetes, cancer, or any other "physical" illness. I am just as smart, funny, and overall a good person as anyone else. It bothers me and I want to know why people are so judgemental about it.
It has nothing to do with you. You are simply telling the truth, or an assumed truth diagnosed into a label by a psychiatrist. It has to do with the ones who ostracize you, because they fear losing mental or emotional control, if they as well, suffered from these disorders. I don’t think I know one person in my life who has not some disorder; emotional or mental which causes a problem or dysfunction. I think this can be categorized into the territory of simply being complicatedly human, in a very complex life and world. It is to what level of dysfunction it causes in one’s life that should be important.
People don’t like to view themselves as having problems, that is, for most. So they put it into their minds that they are near perfection and you lack as much. It seems so much the case to point a finger outwardly, doesn’t it, than at oneself! But that takes honesty and courage, not cowardliness and avoidance.
If I were you, and you’d be committing no untruth, but instead exercising discretion for your own welfare, I’d not speak so much about whatever diagnoses have been given to you. And remember as well, that these are labels which one comes to trust because a"doctor" gave them to us.
Also, I would quickly lose what people make fun of you, or put you down because of their cruel ignorance. With friends such as those, do you really need enemies???
If a person is afflicted with diabetes, or cancer, as you mention, there is less fear of "A contagion" because the illness is tangible, however when it comes to the mind, the illness is amorphous, it has no form, no comfortable handle. That is very frightening to people who live by fear of the unknown, yet live by a FALSE valour. Stay away from such miserable hypocrites, and truly believe what you yourself know of YOU : You are smart, funny, an overall good person, who’d deserve respect, not ridicule. Set aside how moronic these judgmental these people choose to behave. Make worthier friends and enjoy yourself!
Good Luck with this!
I ask because i have A LOT of anxiety symptoms but i feel them all the time(24/7) but if i do have anxiety well it go away with the meds?
not entirely
Help! I have been struggling with horrible anxiety and depression, and I know I will have to get back on meds to help myself. However, I’m afraid of putting on weight after working so hard at getting the pounds off from being on Zoloft a couple of years ago. Any suggestions of which medications can work without the weight gain?
Wellbutrin (buproprion hydrochloride) is very effective and is known best for not causing weight gain or sexual dysfunction. Wellbutrin is dopemigenic and does not affect your serotonin (the neurotransmitter that effects appetite and labido). Zoloft and all serotogenic antidepressants will cause weight gain and sexual dysfunction.
Wellbutrin is a derivative of diethylproprion, which is a stimulant like substance. Some people don’t react well to it and get the shakes and feel speedy from it, however, these side effects usually go away within a week.
If you decide to go with Wellbutrin, I’ve had success taking the extended release tab (Wellbutrin XL) once daily in the morning, so it won’t effect your sleep. I started on 150mg for 2 weeks and then bumped up to 300mg daily.
Ultimately, it’s your Dr’s call on whether or not you should take this drug based on your mental history. It would be a good idea for you to do some more research and discuss it with your Dr and decide together if it’s the right drug for you.
Effexor is another antidepressant that won’t make you gain weight. However, Effexor is hit or miss, it either works really well or it doesn’t and it comes with a high risk for dependancy making it difficult to stop taking. Another thing you can talk to your Dr. about.
Good luck
I have social anxiety disorder; I was diagnosed about 3 years ago. I have tried medication and therapy, but I don’t like how the medication makes me feel and I would like to find an alternative to therapy. How do you combat negative thoughts and face your fears in social situations? One negative thought in particular I am having difficulty with is the constant fear that my boyfriend is cheating on me. How do I get rid of this?
Its hard to overcome… what meds have you been on? I have General Anexiety Disorder and sometimes it controls my life. There are times when I can’t even leave my bedroom. Sometimes I go hysterical at work (so embarressing) and other times I’m able to calm myself down, but it’s hard. I take xanax daily… i used to be on a "maintenance" drug – but I didn;t like it, so now I’m going to counsuling … It’s not making a huge difference yet, but I am learning how to cope and what to do when I feel I’m about to have a panic attack… Sometimes just learning new ways to cope really help. Hang in there. Just remember some of the negative thoughts and fears you have are irrational. He loves you and would never cheat on you. Just the fear of it happening is scary – analyze the situation. . . (Trust is the most important part of a relationship, you know that so have a little trust & faith) Hang in there doll.
